CM4all Technical Talks #16

by Simon Olofsson

CM4all held its most recent TechnicalTalk in our Cologne offices on December 15. About thirty participants accepted the invitation and joined us Friday evening for interesting discussions and a lively exchange of information.

“Modern monitoring and metrics visualization” was the first talk by Holger Müller. He presented two open source tools: Prometheus und Grafana. Prometheus is a monitoring system and time series database; Grafana is a metrics dashboard. Holger showed how the two can be combined.

Christof Harnischmacher spoke about Moore's law and its constraints. He demonstrated some ways to make processors and computers more powerful.

The third talk was about a self-designed lamp built from concrete. Raoul Matthiessen described the steps involved, from creating a model for the lamp to printing a prototype in 3D to finally building the lamp with ambient light sensors.

In the final presentation, Frank Schimmel gave us a overview of Continuous Everything. He demonstrated methods and tools for continuously integrating and delivering software.

At the end of the event, the attendees all enjoyed a beer and continued the conversation at CM4all’s offices.
